We are a Master student at LSE and a Phd student at Sun Yat-sen normal university in China who are trying to form a panel on the diplomatic failures and missed opportunities in the history of U.S.-China relations during the Cold War. My paper will deal with the Nixon Administration's failure in achieving diplomatic recognition with Beijing by 1976. The paper of my colleague will deal with the Korean War as an event that prevented both countries from being engaged into normal relationship for a very long time. We are seeking a third person in order to complete the panel. We are looking for someone who is exploring the failures of the Washington-Beijing relationship during a period not already covered by our papers, and possibly during the 1960's or late 1950's.
